The Enemy

I am an ice cream girl. It is usually my sweet of choice. But I rarely keep ice cream at my house.  I am not much of a cake girl....unless it is my birthday. I adore cupcakes...but only buy them occasionally if it is girl's night. And I have never been one to eat candy bars...UNTIL RECENTLY.  It all started back at Easter...when we had an Egg Hunt with friends. Tommy bought some Milky Way Minis to fill our eggs. I found about 4 eggs that contained Mini's and over the course of a week...ate and enjoy my treat. At the end of the week, I mentioned how much I LOVED Milky Way...who knew? And he told me that he still had the rest of the bad in the freezer. That bag lasted until close to the end of May....I had one mini every few days...and it was great. A little treat. Then he came in with 2 more bags...because they were on sale. I started popping one everyday. Then we were out of town a couple of weeks ago, and went into a target that had them clearanced down to $1.36.  I started LOADING DOWN THE CART!!!  I came to my senses and put back all but three bags. That night in the hotel I popped one after another into my mouth...I couldn't stop...and I haven't until yesterday.  THIS IS WAR!!! NO MORE MILKY WAYS!!!  Yesterday I managed an entire day without 1 piece...VICTORY! I threw what was left into the freezer...I don't like them frozen...but Tommy can still eat them.
My Mission....one week with no Milky Way!!! If I can detox away from them for a week, I think I will be good. I will have won the Milky Way War. I will keep you updated! :)

Three Things Thursday

1. Tommy and I are planning a little vaca at the end of July (when Summer Reading ends). We are planning to go to Asheville NC for a few days...and then one night in Gatlinburg, TN. We went to Asheville as we road tripped our Honey moon and enjoyed it...so we want to go back. Have any of you visited Asheville? Is there anything that we can't miss!?

2.  I think I tweaked my knee during spin class last night. It hurts...tonight I am doing strength class, but may have to take it easy with the squats.

3.  I NEED to drink more water.....I have never had a problem with water until recently. MUST DO BETTER!

Still Kickin'

Hey everybody! Just wanted to drop in and say I am still movin'!! :) Things have been crazy...and my time for blogging/reading blogs has been cut short. I am still moving along the path of good health. I'll be honest and say that for the month of June, I decided to give running a break...was starting to feel a bit of burn out. So instead, I have been walking and doing spin class...and plan to fit a ZUMBA in there before long.
In July, I will hit the pavement/treadmill again. Thinking about starting fresh and doing Couch to 5k again to work on speed, or maybe another 30 Day 1 mile challenge. Something to shake it up :)

Hope everyone is having a great Summer! Work has been wild. We have registered almost 1000 kids for our Summer Reading Program.  If you have kids, you should sign them up for your local reading program. Keep them learning during the summer! Let them read irresponsibly (what they want to read, not necessarily what is on their reading level...or maybe some non-fiction titles about areas of interest.)  It is amazing how much progress can be lost during Summer Break.

June Boom Update

When I committed to June Boom, I had to name something I would do in June that I had been putting off. I am proud to say I have an appointment with a new doctor. This is something that I have NEEDED to do for MONTHS because I have been so frustrated with my current doctor. Thanks Alan for giving me that needed push to get it done :) My appointed is scheduled for August. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Had my second "gym date" for spinning with my new workout partner tonight. We killed it :)

Emailed the dance studio about the Zumba class. Hopefully will be marking that off my Summer Fitness Bucket List soon!

Hope things are going well with everyone!

Three Things Thursday

* Things have been so crazy with my Summer Reading Program, and I feel like I have been ignoring my bloggy friends :( I hope to catch up with you guys (in comments) soon! :)

1. I have a new Spinning Partner!!! I have said here that I REALLY wanted a gym partner! And now I have a standing Wednesday Night Spin Date! Excited :)

2. I have lost 10 lbs in the past 3 months!!! WOOHOO!  I have really avoided the scale for awhile.. actually since my last thyroid meds change... and when I hopped on the scale yesterday for my work physical (every three months, they come to the library and weigh us, take blood for cholesterol, blood sugar, triglycerides, etc.) I was down 10 pounds from the last weigh in!!! Needless to say I was stoked :) Hopefully...my thyroid meds are where they need to be and I can continue this losing streak!

3.  June Boom is going well, and I am working on my Summer Fitness Bucket List!!!  This weekend, I should he able to mark off a trip to the Zoo :)

Summer Fitness Bucket List: Participate in a Charity Event!

Saturday I marked off another item on my Summer Fitness Bucket List....Participating in a charity Event! I picked up my Mom nice and early and we headed over for the  Mall March Against Sexual Violence 5k. It was a small event, but a great "cool" way to get in a 5k walk that morning...and for such a good cause.
I will probably do at least once more charity event this summer, but I didn't want to let this opportunity to mark off a bucket list item slip away.

Then I spent the afternoon playing outside in the kiddie pool with friends....(who cares if we were all 30 or older!!) And I got WAY TOO MUCH SUN! So much so that I barely got in my June Boom 30 minutes on Sunday...and it was rather lite exercise, but I am counting it :)

Three Things Thursday

1. It is HOT in Alabama! Today's high is supposed to be 97 with a heat index of 105!!!! SHEESH! What will mid July feel like? A few days ago, someone asked a friend if he knew when it was supposed to cool down. His reply...."November."  I couldn't help but chuckle.

2. Yesterday for my Boom Challenge, I did walk/run intervals for 2 miles. Whew...so HOT! But I felt so good afterwards. Most of my outdoor activity has been in the form of walking lately, because I didn't know if I could handle the heat. Yesterday I found out that I can...but only for about 4 minute run intervals :)

3. My Summer Reading Program registration began Tuesday at the library. In 2 days we have registered over 300 kids!!! It is going to be a WILD summer :)

June Boom

During the month of June, I will be participating in Alan's June Boom! (If you haven't checked out Alan's page, you should!)

The June Boom has three rules:
  1. Exercise every day in June. I'll do at least 30 minutes of something every day.
  2. Start something you've been putting off. This will be finding and making an appointment with a new doctor. (I need to do a bit of research, choose the doctor I think will be best for me, and make the appointment.) I don't know why I dread this sooo much, but it is a MUST this summer (I don't want to go back to my current doctor and will need a 3 month check up soon), so I will make it a goal for June!
  3. Be publicly accountable. I will update my blog once a week on my June Boom Progress.
