Do any of you use an EReader? The library has purchased several that we plan to add to our collection,, and the staff has been given the opportunity to take them home and acquaint ourselves with them. So far, I have taken home the Nook and LOVED it. In the coming weeks, I will also try out the Kindle, Sony EReader, and IPad.
I am a "bookie" and didn't think I would really enjoy using the Readers, but I Loved the Nook. Especially for reading in bed. While I don't think I would always prefer Ereaders to books,I found it very convenient and loved being able to browse the Internet without dragging around the laptop. Tommy also enjoyed it, too. We both thought it would be great for when we are traveling during the summer. He was ready to purchase one this weekend, but but I told him we should wait until we have tried more of the options.
So what are your opinions on Ereaders? Do you have one? Do you think you would enjoy it? Which one do you suggest?

I've never used an e-reader because I honestly don't read that much.... but I always consider how magazines would look. Hey, if I can read my People on a Kindle, then why not? LOL.

ReplyDeleteOur library has a few books on mp3 players...you just check out the mp3 player and hook up your own ear buds and tada. I think that's pretty neat.
Amy- We have those too. Our brand in Play-aways. I LOVED them when we first got them, but I think I still prefer my books on CD. Just little quirks about the mp3 that got on my nerves,like when I got out of the car, I would always forget to turn off the mp3 player because I was so used to the book on CD turning off when I got out of the car. Then it would take me forever to find my place again. I did this multiple time (my fault completely.) I do like play-aways when I want to listen to something at the gym :)
ReplyDeleteI converted to reading on Kindle in 2008 and I haven't looked back. I love it. I read so much more now because it's so convenient. I have upgraded to each new Kindle as they've been released because I read so much it is worth it to me to have the newest and best. I didn't think I could ever convert full time to reading on a Kindle, but I have. I can carry thousands of books with me at all times! Not that I need that many, but I can!
ReplyDeleteI use my Kindle for reading books, not surfing the web or posting on Facebook so I can't speak to those capabilities.
I don't think you can compare an iPad to a Kindle or other reader with an e-ink display because they are completely different things. One is a small computer while the other is a electronic book. I would use an iPad for reading magazines, though, because on a b/w Kindle (or other) it just wouldn't do.
Kindle is lacking the function of checking out books from the library, while Nook and Sony readers allow this. But I'm partial to Amazon so I'll stick with Kindle.
As for the price of e-books, sometimes that's irritating. Occasionally the e-book is more expensive than the paperback! Craziness! And it used to be that the most expensive books were $9.99, but now they can be more than that, especially for brand new books. I have downloaded many of the classics (Austen, Hemmingway, Tolstoy) for free which is a nice option. I've yet to read any of them, though. There are other books that occasionally come up as free or reduced and I try and snap those up as they become available.
As for borrowing and lending books, some books can be lended, but only for 14 days and only once to one user. I think that's lame and I hope the publishers lighten up one of these days.
