You guys know I have held the goal of a 24 min 2-miler (yes I am a turtle) forever! Well I am on a mission to make this happen, and I need your help! What things did you do to improve your speed?
I think your goal is the same as my goal LOL I had it once ever and it just came from consistent exercise and running. The better shape you are in the quicker you can be. With that being said I do think some of us are just slow runners and its okay. You will get to your 2 miles in 24 mins. ;)
That is NOT turtle speed!! (at least to the rest of us turtles!!) Im working on my speed right now. I have no idea if this is the right way to do it or not.... I do it on a treadmill. I started with two minutes at 5.0 and then one minute at 4.8, When I feel like Im not going to die, I try to increase the first speed by .1
Several things. Strengthen your hamstrings and quads with things like deadlifts, lunges and squats. When you run concentrate on not picking up your feet too high. It's about a faster turnover so faster, quicker steps. You have to train your legs to move faster which takes time and practice. Another thing in incorporating speed work or hills once a week. Happy training!
