A Merry-thon Challenge!

I don't know about you, but Challenges really help to keep me focused in keeping up my mileage. Confession Time...I didn't run at all last week. I wasn't trying to complete a challenge, and since I was away from my gym and the outside conditions weren't great, I didn't push myself to keep up my running.  I did quite a bit of walking and even did a DVD one day, but I didn't get a good run in all week. ( I am also really behind in reading about you guys! I have only had access to the internet for about an hour in the past week!)  Today I am back to my regular routine and I am really looking forward to gaining some miles tonight.  As the Christmas Holidays approach, and all the extras that go with it, I need a new challenge to focus on. I will be working late more this month, and I need a good reason to hit the gym late (or early that morning) instead of just shrugging it off and heading home to PJs and my warm blanket. I need to commit to hitting the gym before or after that holiday party. I don't want to set myself up for failure by making the mileage too high, but I want there to me enough that I have to get to the gym several times a week for a couple of miles.

I am challenging myself to get in 26.1 miles of running during the month of December. I will be running tonight, but this challenge will officially begin December 1. Will you join me? ~ Jess

  2. I'm in too. I already have a running plan that starts today and 26 miles should definitely be doable for me.

  3. I'll take the challenge too! I am finishing up my mileage for DDGbD and I need a push to keep going as well! This should pair well with me finishing C25K!

  7. After all my resisting, I think I can honestly say I like my iPod Nano, though it does take some getting used to. There are some things I'm not sure about yet - like the touch screen (what's the point?!), and where I'm going to put it when I run, since the reviews I've seen for armbands have all said the only one that seems to be available right now is too small for it. For my Thanksgiving race, I clipped it onto a safety pin inside my vest!

But that's really a small problem that will regulate soon enough - it just came out a couple months ago, I guess. There are a lot of things I really like about it, like the Genius - I like a lot of different music, so putting my iPod on Shuffle can get very strange very quickly. Genius takes the song that you pick and makes a 20-25 song playlist based on the genre. I love it!

I also love the Nike+ aspect - there are Nike+ machines at the gym, so I can plug my iPod in there and it records my run - then when I connect the iPod to my computer, it sends the miles to my Nike+ account (tracks miles and top speeds, plus they have challenges, too!). I just bought a pair of running shoes a couple months ago, but when I need to get new ones, I think I might get a pair of Nike's that are compatible with the iPod - I saw someone at my Thanksgiving race with it, and I got total gadget envy. :)

(P.S. Sorry for the novel I just wrote here, haha.)

(P.P.S. What color is your Nano?)

  14. Great idea!!! I'm in if it isn't too late! I'm shooting for 130 mi! I love running in the winter, but it's just so tempting so stay under my warm blankets knowing that it's snowy and icy out there and that it will be dark for my entire run. Thanks!!

  15. Okay, I've been clicking around other people's blogs, and it looks like most are shooting for 26 mi. Is it okay to set my own goal? I just need some accountability. I can change my number from 130 to 126. :)
